Typical Narrow Boat cleaning methodology
When boat has been lifted out of water we start by wet blasting the area with high pressure hot water/steam. This will melt through all old sealant that has previously been applied.
The process will then start cleaning right down to the bare metal removing any mill scale, rust and clean any pitting. When this process is taking place it will not remove any metal, it will only profile the area.
After we have completed this process if there is still pitting left we will then clean these areas with wet blasting sand. As a rule we will be able to clean a boat without the use of sand, avoiding any mess and also any environmental and health issues.
When the boat has been cleaned 'gingering' of metal will occur, this is no detriment at all. It will help fuse the paint or protective coating when applied.
If the boat is to be repainted the same machine is capable of stripping the paint down to bare metal instead of having to rub down or grind, causing unsightly marks and blemishing that will show after the paint job has been finished.

This method saves docking time
We can start cleaning immediately the boat is lifted and save a lot of hard work and elbow grease!
We are narrow boat owners and appreciate the concept of the process.
